FRESNO HALLOWEEN SECTIONAL OCTOBER 30 - NOVEMBER 2 The Schedule for the Halloween sectional is similar to previous tournament schedules. Thursday and Friday events are 1 pm and 7 pm, with a bonus session Friday morning at 9 am. Saturday and Sunday start at 10 am, with a second session on Saturday at 2:30 pm. All of the above sessions except Sunday include a stratified pairs event and a stratified 299er event. The bonus session on Friday morning also includes Newcomer pairs, free for those with under 10 master points. Sunday is Swiss team day, with two flights playing two sessions starting at 10 am. There will be lots of bridge for everyone. Friday night is Halloween, so tournament chairman Dave Shuster plans a Halloween party. Dress in your finest costume - you may win a prize. Dave promises no bobbing for apples, but Hospitality chairmen Mary Jo Davila and Dora Gostanian will provide refreshments. If you need a partner for any event, call Mun Takeda at 559-284-3750 and she will help you. NEW RULES Please note that the revoke penalty has changed according to the new rules effective September 8, 2008. The penalty is one trick unless you win the trick that you revoke on. The only way to win a trick by revoking is by trumping the trick. In that case, the penalty is two tricks. |
UNIT UPCOMING EVENTS CALENDAR with tournament links California and nearby tournaments Bay Area TournamentsUNIT NEWS Our building committee continues to work on a new location. If and when there is a final decision, it will be published here. The building committee and the unit board consider and discuss many issues concerning the bridge club. Issues that are discussed are often discarded. We hear rumors of things that will happen which were merely discussed and not seriously considered. Please be aware that discussions are not final decisions. All members are welcome to come to and observe unit meetings. The election for board members to serve in 2009 and 2010 will be at the Unit Christmas Party on Sunday, December 7, 2008. Be sure to save that date - we will have lots of refreshments and a Unit Championship to celebrate the holidays. If you or someone you know would like to serve on the unit board, let nominating committee chairmen Jill Wood or Maggie Mahaffey know. There is a nomination box at the bridge club, or you can notify one of the other unit board members. Nominations are due a week before Thanksgiving. |
