WINTER SECTIONAL
FEBRUARY 5-8
What may be the last sectional at our bridge club will be held next week.    The schedule contains stratified open and 299er games most sessions, with a two session Swiss team game starting Sunday at 10 am.   We've also scheduled two one session 299er Swiss team games on Sunday.   Thursday and Friday we play at 1 pm and 7 pm, Saturday at 10 am and 2:30 pm, and Sunday at 10 am.   We also have a Friday morning game at 9 am, with a free session for 0-10 master point players on Friday morning.
Dora Gostanian and Mary Jo Davila are asking players to help with hospitality - there's a sign up sheet at the bridge club.   Please bring a snack for one of the sessions.   The Sunday game will be concluded quickly because dinner at the tournament is included in the entry.  If you don't have your partners and teammates, call them right now.   Kay Chrisman at 449-0966 is partnership chairman.

WE'RE MOVING SOON!
Enclosed is a history of our search for a new location.  We have signed a lease.  We may be moving  sometime in March or April.   The landlord is doing quite a bit of remodeling, but there is more to be done.   We will have new chairs and table tops, plus other things to make the bridge club a better place to play,   We sent a letter to our members requesting contributions for the moving expenses.   We are delighted with the generous responses we received.  Thank you to those who contributed already.   We are still receiving contributions.   Jill Wood has sparked several fundraising projects - player auctions, Starbucks sales, and a spare change jar and has ore in mind.   John Schnell sponsored a pot luck Unit Championship that was very successful.  We had twenty tables in play after a huge pot luck lunch.  All the proceeds, including additional player contributions,  after rent and ACBL fees went to the moving fund.  Thanks to all who participate in the fundraisers.

GRAND NATIONAL TEAMS

District 21 has a complicated schedule for the GNT.    Flight A, 0-5000 mp starts February 7 and 8 and continues March 7 and 8.   All other flights start in March.   However, for all flights, pre-registration ends January 31, 2009.   The other flights are open, B (0-2000), and C, nonLM (under 500 mp).    If you want to play, you should register now with Jackie Ortiz at jackieo@sonic.net.

UNIT ELECTION
Our new officers are Richard Meffley, president, John Simpson, Vice-President, Kay Chrisman, Secretary, and Paul Boyd, treasurer.   Other unit positions will be decided later.

NEW LIFE MASTERS
Please remember that making Life Master will be tougher after this year.   The master point requirements go up to 500 points, and the number of required pigmented (gold, silver, black, red) points increases as well.   Those who join this year and those who keep their membership dues current until they make LM will follow the old rules of 300 master points plus colored points.   We'll have a few more reminders during the year.   Please keep your membership current!

LESSONS ON DEFENSE
Mike Molinari will instruct the third in the Saturday morning series starting February 21 at 9 am.   This course will focus on defensive play, with some review of the previous series on bidding and declarer play.   If you have never had a lesson on defense, maybe you should come to the Saturday morning lessons.
