DECEMBER 13
CHRISTMAS PARTY

ANNUAL MEETING
STAC GAME

Come one, come all to our annual Christmas party on Sunday, December 13, at noon.   The unit board members will host and prepare the annual dinner.   We are thankful to be in our new home this year, and want to make this year's dinner a memorable affair.
We will also have a short annual meeting and election of unit board members for 2010 and 2011.  Enclosed is a ballot.   Please place it in the ballot box at the Fresno Bridge Center, or mail it to the bridge center.
Seven unit members are running for six board seats.  Please vote for up to six candidates.  The candidates are:
Kay Chrisman, currently the unit secretary, bridge center manager, and director of the Wednesday evening game.
Linda Coppersmith, who was the top 99er player at the Fresno Bridge Center the last two years, until she accumulated too many master points this year to be eligible.
Mary Jo Davila, currently Hospitality co-Chairman - she has helped make our sectionals successful.
Richard Meffley - currently unit president, editor of the monthly newsletter, and host of the Friday night bridge game.
Mike Molinari - A resident of Coursegold, he helps with the Oakhurst game when he isn't giving lessons at the Fresno Bridge Center two or three times a week.  He also runs duplicate games for the new players twice a week.
Anthony Toto is a fun and popular player.  We're waiting for his children to get past soccer age so he'll have more time to play  bridge.
Jill Wood, past president of District 21, has helped the unit in several ways, including organizing fund raisers for our move to the new bridge center, and producing our recent roster.
We'll have a STAC game after the Christmas party, with open and 299er sections.

BEGINNING LESSONS
Mike Molinari will offer the second in the series of beginning lessons, starting December 5, 2009, on Saturday mornings at 9 a.m.  This includes nine weekly lessons for $90, plus $13 for the book on Play of the Hand.   Contact him at 658-7318 or fresnom1ke@aol.com for more information.       For those who can't make Saturdays, Richard Meffley will be teaching the second series through Clovis Adult School on Tuesday nights at the Fresno Bridge Center, starting in January.

PLACES AND FACES
If you're not doing anything after Thanksgiving, why not go to San Diego for the North American Bridge Championships?   There are games for everyone - many intermediate/novice games, frequent lessons, entertainment, hospitality, knockout team games with a dozen or more brackets, and pair games morning, afternoon, evening, and later.   If you can't make it to San Diego, the next NABC is in Reno next March.  If you miss both of those, the NABC won't be back on the west coast until Seattle in the fall of 2011.
Joe Fox won two KO team events, and finished second and third in two other KO teams, plus came in first and fifth in the Swiss teams at the Puerta Vallarta regional.   Congratulations!
Richard Meffley won the open pairs at the El Cerrito sectional, and was fifth and seventh in other events.
Welcome to new members Brooke Frost, Dennis Frost, Doris Rahn, and Barbara Wiedel.
Our sympathy to Effie Beeman whose husband recently passed away.

CLUB NEWS

Keiko Collins has been back running her Tuesday morning bridge game for the last month, and is happy to be back.  Her game is now limited to players with under 2,500 master points.
It's time to enjoy the holidays - many of us will be going to parties with our friends, but there will be some at the bridge center, too.   Maggie's 750 Christmas party will be Tuesday afternoon, December 15.   Ginny Dow will have a Christmas party with gift drawings on Thurday afternon December 17.   Richard will have a party and membership game Friday evening December 18.   Mary Lou and Laura will have a pot luck lunch on New Year's Day, Friday Janaury 1, 2010.   And don't forget to check with the Oakhurst game to find out about their Christmas activities.
Aileen Davis celebrated her 90th birthday with Byron Davis, celebrating his 93rd birthday, by winning the club game at the Oakhurst bridge club.
The November Oakhurst winners in Oakhurst were Gene Krieghoff, Wally Cucura, Betty Ann Dunn, Burke Zane, and Aileen and Byron Davis.
The top Fresno Bridge Center player for October was Skip Miller, followed by Rose Boot.  Steve Sharp still leads for the year.  Jay Shapiro is the top 99er for October, followed by Cathleen Burden and Denny Tweed.  Jay leads the 99ers for 2009, followed by Estee Strombotne and Gwen Davey.

NEW PLAYERS - PLEASE JOIN THIS YEAR
The ACBL is toughening the rules to make life master, effective for all players who are not members as of January 1, 2010.   You'll need 500 points to make LM, and all the colored point requirements will be raised.  If someday you want to be a life master, join by December 31, 2009.
