NON -LM SECTIONAL
AUGUST 14-15

If you haven't made Life Master yet, this is a chance to get a few more silver points at a fun tournament.  No experts will be playing; just players who haven't made Life Master yet.   Saturday's pair game sessions are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., with a free lunch and Lunch and Learn between sessions.   Sunday is a two session Swiss team event starting at ten a.m, with lunch served between sessions.
Call Mike Molinari at 559-658-7318 if you need a partner or teammate for any of the sessions.  If you'd like to help with hospitality, sign up at the bridge center to bring a snack for one of the sessions, or check with hospitality co-chairmen Dora Gostanian and Jackie Finn.

CLUB NEWS
NAP STAC
This is the last month to qualify for the North American Pairs.  If you haven't qualified yet, check the calendar and play in an NAP game.  Those who qualify are eligible for the unit finals later this year.   Each qualifying session gives half red points at sectional rating, which is two or three times as much as regular games.
Several of the clubs are holding Sectional Tournament at Club games the week of August 16 to 22.   Check your calendar to see when they are being held.  STAC game winners receive silver points, and could win 20 points if they have a high precentage game in a stratified game.
The Oakhurst master point leaders for July are Don McCartin, Karen McCartin, Ray April, Claire Molnar, Ken Doig, and Gardner Murray.  In Madera, the top July players were John Simpson and Morgan Johnson, followed by Rose Wheeler and Barbara Brock.  Betty Eden leads for 2010, with Morgan Johnson, Carol Kaufman, Larry and Gay Slates,  Al Crane, and Barbara Brock all less than one master point behind.
At the Fresno Bridge Center, Skip Miller   leads in June, with Paul Messner, Steve Sharp,  and Jill Wood right behind. Steve Sharp still leads for 2010, followed by Bert Rettner and Skip Miller.  George Dalition  was tops for 99ers in June,  followed by Mary Ann Clark and Barbara Kelley.  George still leads for 2010, with
Jackie Finn and Marnie Powell right behind.
Maggie wishes to thank all those who came to her birthday party, and helped with food and gifts.   Mary Lou and Laura Da Costa brought a birthday cake.  Others brought salads.   With the salads that Maggie fixed, it was a nice  lunch for 18½ tables of bridge players.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL
AUGUST 22
POT LUCK & IMP PAIRS AUGUST 29

The Fresno Unit has planned a few special events for hot August Sunday afternoons.  Sunday afternoon August 22 is the last day of STAC Week.  Come play in the STAC game, win some silver points, and enjoy ice cream with all the trimmings.
Sunday August 29th we'll have an IMP pairs game following a Pot Luck lunch.   IMP pairs games are like team games, except that you don't have teammates to help or hinder you.  Your teammates are the average of all the other pairs playing the other direction.  It's like a team game, but you don't have to do the scoring - the computer averages and scores for you.   Come try it, and enjoy the pot luck lunch.

PRO-AM TEAMS
Thanks to everyone who came out to play in the Pro-Am team game.  We had ten teams, much better attendance than we've had in quite a while.  Maybe it was the delicious  pot luck salad lunch provided by the players or the ice cream in the middle of the session  - but whatever it was, it was a fun day of bridge.  Be sure to enjoy the unit's Sunday afternoon games.
