Message from our President

Dear club members,
 
At a regional tournament a scantily dressed lady commented to her partner, "It sure is cold in here".  One of the gentlemen at the table  replied, "You can borrow my sweater if you are nice to us".  Gratefully, she slipped it over her shoulders.  At the conclusion of the round and  after giving the opponents two good boards, her partner asked, "Does this mean that she gets to keep the sweater?"
 
Being nice to the opponents in bridge doesn't just mean giving them good results.  It also involves  demonstrating good bridge etiquette.    One of the common complaints of directors is" toying" with the bidding box.  Take a few seconds to think about your bid before choosing a  card.  Keep your eyes on the cards until you are sure you have the one you want.
 
No one likes to have to bid at a higher level than they had anticipated, therefore one must be sure that their bid is sufficient. We all know  that the penalty for this error is sometimes disasterous.

Another often made mistake at the table is "lead out of turn". Some players look at their partner and ask "Is it my lead", before exposing  their card.  This a good practice and can save unnecessary director calls and penalities at the bridge table. 

Let's all try to be friendly as well as follow the rules of the game.  This way we will make our favorite pasttime more enjoyable.  Remember, be nice!
