Undoubtedly the best partnership effort at the Pacific Southwest Regional held in San Diego April 10-16 was produced by a pair of bridge players not even playing together! 

Larry Doose, a paramedic fireman from Thousand Oaks, and Don Thomas, a safety engineer from Spring Valley, sprang into action Saturday afternoon when a fellow player suddenly collapsed and stopped breathing entirely within a matter of minutes. 

Using emergency skills each man had perfected, Doose applied chest compression while simultaneously Thomas gave the victim mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. 

Long before the paramedics could put in an appearance in response to the 911 call, the patient was breathing on his own, conscious and able to speak.
